THE INTERNET OF EVERYTHING SUMMIT
THE INTERNET OF EVERYTHING SUMMIT

In collaboration with Cisco Italia

People, things, processes and data used to function in a separate and independent manner, but the next step in the evolution of the Internet is to bring them together in the Internet of Everything (IoE). This will be done by combining the machine-to-machine (M2M) and people-to-machine (P2M) connections of the Internet of Things with the people-to-people (P2P) connections of the Web and mobile telephony in such a way that people and things can collaborate by exchanging the data and information made available by integrated and shared processes.

The IoE is based on a new technological infrastructure that combines networks of sensors for personal use and/or incorporated in other objects, products and things with wireless connectivity in such a way that they become intelligent sources of new data and information, and are made available for the development of a new ecosystem of systems and services. This will transform the competitive dynamics between the various economic and industrial sectors and what has been called the Industrial Internet, and see the emergence of new players.

If you think of what opportunities can be generated by IoE united with technologies for the advanced analysis of big data in terms of value, economic growth potential and new employment (aspects that a study by the Progressive Policy Institute has already described as having taken place in the United States), it is not difficult to imagine the changes facing individuals, companies, and public organisations.

Furthermore, questions of security, privacy and the simplicity of managing automation take on even greater importance in an increasingly interconnected world.

In this economic and social context, and ever attentive to foreseeing innovations and their related technological implications, The Innovation Group has decided to launch its Summit THE INTERNET OF EVERYTHING, which will feature the presence of international guests who will bear witness to the fact that the loE represents a new paradigm of technological innovation and the transformation of cities, manufacturing sectors such as the automotive industry, retailing, utilities, the safety of the agribusiness pipeline, logistics and transport, the home, healthcare, and environmental protection.

The IoE also underlies radical changes in the information systems of many companies because it will allow the integration of the so far separated areas of information technology (IT) and operation technology (OT), thus making it possible to develop a new generation of company applications that will support new services and business models.

The Summit is also intended to reflect and demonstrate the fact that the vision of the IoE has already found concrete expression in the projects and applications that will not only enrich the forthcoming EXPO 2015 themes of food, health, nutrition and the agribusiness, but will also underpin the infrastructures of EXPO 2015 itself, an event that will prefigure the digital Smart City and transform the whole of Milan into a series of islands animated by the Internet of Things and People.

IL SUMMIT “THE INTERNET OF EVERYTHING” will therefore answer questions such as:

  • How can the IoE contribute to improving the productivity and competitiveness of companies and organisations?
  • What technological scenario will allow us to understand it fully?
  • What is the potential of the IoE in terms of reinventing company processes, the organisation of work, and the roles of individual people?
  • What existing IoE applications and platforms can already innovate companies and some industries?
  • How to make the right investments in order to see a return?
  • Why do cloud computing and big data permit the innovations of IoE?
  • What is the value of security in a world that increasingly interconnects people, things, systems and data?
