Giorgio De Michelis is Full Professor of Interaction Design and Informatics for Organizations at the University of Milano – Bicocca where he has served as Director of the Dipartimento di Informatica, Sistemistica e Comunicazione (DISCo) from October 2001 to September 2007. Giorgio De Michelis is carrying out research on models of concurrent systems (Petri Nets); on Computer Supported Cooperative Work, on interaction design and ubiquitous computing and on the application of ICT to Arts (Augmented Choreography). He is a visionary computer scientist trying to understand how ICT can contribute to social innovation and economic sustainability. Giorgio De Michelis is member of the editorial board of ‘Computer Supported Cooperative Work: The Journal of Collaborative Computing’, ‘ACM Computers in Entertainment’ and ‘Studi Organizzativi’. He is member of the European Academy of Science and of the Istituto di Studi Superiori dell’Insubria Gerolamo Cardano. Giorgio De Michelis is Vice-President of Fondazione IRSO, an Italian research private institution specialized in innovation processes in industry and government with particular attention to their organizational and technological aspects. He is member of the scientific committee and of the Board of Fondazione THINK. From April 2008 Giorgio De Michelis is engaged in the design and development of itsme, a radically new Linux-based operating system for workstations. Giorgio De Michelis has authored more than two hundreds scientific papers and four books in the areas of his interest. He is co-author, together with Thomas Binder, Pelle Ehn, Giulio Jacucci, Per Linde and Ina Wagner, of the book “Design Things”, published in Autumn 2011 by MIT Press.
